    YouTube Outlier Finder

Find videos that got far more views than their channel usually gets — the clearest sign of a topic that works.

How to find outlier videos on YouTube

    1. 1

      Type a topic or keyword

Use the words people would put in a video title — “personal finance”, “home workout”, “ai tools”. Every word you type has to appear in the video’s title, so short, specific topics work best.

    2. 2

      Press Find outliers

TubeGrade searches the breakout videos it has already found and shows the strongest matches: videos with at least 3× their channel’s usual views and 10,000+ views.

    3. 3

      Study what made them win

Compare the titles, thumbnails and angles of the outliers. When several videos on the same topic beat their channels, the topic or format is in demand — that is your idea.

    What is a YouTube outlier?

An outlier is a video that got far more views than its channel normally gets. Big channels get big numbers on everything, so raw view counts hide what is really working. Measuring each video against its own channel does not: when a 50,000-subscriber channel gets a million views on one upload, something about that topic, title or thumbnail pulled in viewers far beyond its usual audience.

The outlier score is that video’s views divided by its channel’s average views. 3× is a clear outlier; 10× and above is a breakout. How TubeGrade calculates outlier scores.

How to use outliers to find video ideas

Search a topic in your niche and look for patterns, not one-offs. If several outliers share a format — “I tried X for 30 days”, “beginner’s guide to X”, a before-and-after thumbnail — that format is in demand right now. Make your own, better version for your audience.

Pay most attention to outliers from channels your size. A small channel’s 50× video proves the idea can win without an existing audience — exactly the situation you are in when you start a new topic.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a YouTube outlier?

An outlier is a video that got far more views than its channel normally gets. A channel averaging 20,000 views per video that suddenly gets 400,000 views on one upload has a 20× outlier — a strong sign that the topic, title or thumbnail hit something viewers wanted.

How is the outlier score calculated?

A video’s views divided by its channel’s average views. An outlier score of 8× means the video got eight times what that channel usually gets. Comparing a video with its own channel, not with all of YouTube, is what lets small channels’ breakout videos show up next to big ones.

    Is the Outlier Finder free?

This preview is free and needs no account. It searches TubeGrade’s own database of breakout videos and shows the strongest few. A free TubeGrade account adds 10 live YouTube outlier searches a month with filters; Pro makes live search unlimited and adds global outliers across every niche TubeGrade tracks.

Why did my search show no outliers?

The preview only shows videos whose titles contain every word you typed and that are clear outliers (3× or more). If TubeGrade has not found such videos for a topic yet, it says so instead of showing loosely related ones. Try fewer or broader words, or run a live YouTube search with a free account.

Why are some outlier scores so high?

Small channels can post enormous scores: a channel that usually gets 1,000 views and then gets 400,000 has a 400× outlier. Those are often the most interesting results, because the video’s success can’t be explained by the channel’s size.

How do outliers help me get more views?

They show what an audience already wants, proven by real views rather than guesses. Creators use outliers to pick topics, borrow winning title structures and thumbnail styles, and spot rising trends early — then make their own better version.
